Getting Ready for Sunday, September 6th

Sermon for Sunday September 6, 2009
“Just Jump In!”
Just Jump In! Remember hearing those words when you were considering your first dive? Just leaving your feet is always the biggest challenge even in serving God. Joining a ministry team in your church can be intimadating, which is the reason many never leave their feet and jump in. Just jump in! Trust God to give you the ability and encouragement to do what needs to be done.

Awesome service this past Sunday! Thanks to all the heroes that made it happen; both in front, and behind the scenes. This week we continue our series on “Living Beyond Myself”, and we are to the point of just jumping in. Often times we tend to over analyze things. We want to really think and pray over every detail. Prayer is a good thing, but notice what Jesus did all throughout the scriptures. When Jesus called someone to do something, He was calling them to jump in and start right then. I haven’t run across any place where Jesus tells someone, “well, just think about it for a few days and get back to me.” No, you see Jesus saying things like “go now”, “follow me”, “let the dead bury the dead”, etc… This week as you read through the study materials, and spend time with God, ask Him to show you some place to serve and jump in!
Mary Ann will be at the helm of the worship team again this Sunday. She did a great job a couple of weeks ago, and I fully expect that you will truly be blessed as she leads out in worship. Help support her Sunday by being prepared for worship. Be sure to take time to listen to the music in the chart above, and come ready to “jump in” to worship.

Sermon for Sunday August 9, 2009

“The Friend’s Responsibility”

Friendship is not all fun and games. Confronting friends about destructive behavior in their life can be a risky thing, however it is our responsibility to love people enough to tell them the truth. Today, we will learn how to be accountable and hold others accountable.

We continue our series this week “Beyond the Surface” talking about the side of friendship that most people would rather avoid. Do you love your friends enough to be able to confront them when they are wrong? We’re not just talking about personal preferences like which side of the roll the toilet paper should dispense from, or whether to push the toothpaste from the top or bottom. What we are talking about is speaking the truth in love. When a friend is going down a road that will lead them into trouble, it’s our responsibility as a friend to act. Our sermon this week tells us how we should act in such situations.

As I was thinking about the music for this service, I of course knew there wasn’t a lot to go with for such a topic. We will open up with “Happy Day” which is simply a song that celebrates the fact that Christ came that we could be with him forever. As I thought more about the topic, I was reminded that God doesn’t ask us to do anything that He doesn’t do. In John 15, Jesus calls us friends, which is where the celebration of “Friend of God” comes from in this service. God calls us “friend”, but He also confronts us when we are wrong. All throughout the scriptures you can see God confronting and disciplining those who would stray. Proverbs 3:11-12 says, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves.” If we are a true friend, we will gather the courage to confront those we love with the truth, even when it’s not the easiest thing to do.

“Forever” and “Faithful” are songs that declare of course God’s faithfulness, and the fact that He will never change. We will close the service with “We Shine” which is a declaration of what we intend to do as Christians, to shine the light of Christ to a darkened world.

Thanks for taking the time to check out what will be happening on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to this service. It’s been a great series, and if we truly take the message and run with it, we can turn our church, and world upside down. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Sorry about not getting the blog posted last week. We where at a camp in Texas last week, and it totally got overlooked. Cindy and I leave for another camp in Missouri on Monday morning, so please keep us in your prayers as we travel and minister.

This week we are continuing our series on friendship. I don’t know about you, but God has really been speaking to me through this series and book. I pray that God helps us all make changes in the way we interact with others.

Our music this week is a lot about simply lifting up the name of God. We open up with a familiar couple of songs “Today is the Day”, and “Everything To Me” in which we proclaim how much God means to us, and our intention to worship him as a congregation. After the welcome we go into a new song entitled “Faithful” which has become one of my favorites. In a world where we are surrounded by unfaithfulness, it’s such a blessing to remember that our God is ever faithful, and always will be. We finish up the music portion of the service with “Glorify Thy Name” and another new song for Oasis entitled “Your Name”.

Take time this week to listen to the music in the chart above. I really look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

Sermon for Sunday July 19, 2009

“Friendship Phobia’s”

Fear is the primary reason that we keep our safe distance from people. We are afraid to risk friendship with someone, because it could turn out like other experiences from our past. Today, we will look at some phobia’s that we have about getting closer to the people that God has brought into our life.

We continue our series “Beyond the Surface: The Journey To Real Friendship” this week with the topic “Friendship Phobia’s”. We all have them: bad experiences with friends from our past that influence how we make friends now. This week Bro. Todd will be talking about how we can break through those fears, and get closer to those that God has place into our lives.

Our music this week deals a lot with breaking free, and allowing God to be the center of everything we do. EVERYTHING, and that includes the relationships we have with those that we come in contact with every day. God has friends for all of us, but often we let our fears get in the way of really connecting with someone who could be an incredible blessing in our lives. It’s our prayer that through the time of worship this week, you will let go of the fears you have been holding on to, and experience the freedom that only God can give.

Be sure to check out the music by clicking the links in the chart above. The better you know the music we’ll be singing, the more you can free yourself to simply worship the creator. Thanks for checking out the blog, and for taking time to prepare yourself for worship at Oasis on Sunday. I look forward to worshiping with you.

“Completing Your Circle of Friends”

Today, we will explore the different kinds of friends that it takes to complete your circle. As we look at the life of Jesus, we will discover the different kinds of friends that he made as he was here on earth. In this message, we will give special attention to the relationship that Jesus had with Peter, James, and John and the need to have very close friends.

I’m really looking forward to our service this Sunday as we kick off a new series entitled “Beyond The Surface/ The Journey to Real Friendship”. According to Facebook I have 178 friends, but I believe friendship is more than just shooting a text every now and then (I’m not anti-Facebook, so no emails please J ) Real friendship is something that we all need in our lives, no matter who we are. And through this series we will dive beyond the surface (facebook friends?) and truly start the journey of real friendship. Try to be a part of every service in this series, and I believe God will do a great work in your life.

Be sure to take time to listen to the music in the chart above. This is the music we will be doing during our time of worship on Sunday. I really look forward to worshiping with you then!

Sermon for Sunday June 21, 2009

“In Over Your Head”
When we make a step of faith, God places us in situations that bigger than our human capacity. In these moments, we can feel overwhelmed, fearful, and question our decision. Rahab was certainly in over her head, but God gave her what she needed to complete her assignment.

So I’m laughing right now at the title of the sermon for Sunday, and realizing this is the reason for yet another short blog entry. Three letters: VBS! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year, yet definitely an overwhelming one. The really cool thing is that our VBS theme is on Faith, and not being afraid because God is with us….sound familiar? It should as this is pretty much the theme for our series on Rahab. Our kids will be singing at the opening of services to kick us off, and introduce the theme for the day. The rest of our music deals a lot with the subject of faith, and trusting God to take care of us even when we don’t understand how or why.

This week will also be a little sad for us here at Oasis as we say goodbye to a family that has been with us since the beginning. John and Christina Anderson; as you probably already know, are moving to Omaha for John’s job. The Andersons have been a big part of the Oasis family, and where the first members of the Oasis Worship Team when we began in 2002. We really appreciate their years of service, and wish them well in this new chapter of life. This will be their final service with us on Sunday, so be sure to take time to encourage them as they make this big move.

Thanks for taking time to check out what will be happening on Sunday morning. Be sure to check out the songs by clicking the links in the chart above. I look forward to worshiping with you all on Sunday.

Sermon for Sunday June 14, 2009

“Moving Beyond Yourself”
When God is moving us in a particular direction, our tendency is to ask, “how will this effect me?” Selfishness often keeps us from being obedient to God. We must get over ourselves, if we are going to follow God. Today, we will see how Rahab risked it all to help others and to be obedient to God.

What a great start to our series about Rahab on Sunday! I’m really looking forward to the next 3 weeks of the series. Due to VBS, Camps, etc… Our blogs will probably be a shorter than normal, so please bear with me for the next few weeks. I am very excited about Sunday as we go Acoustic/Djembe` this week. Sermon for Sunday, June 7, 2009
“Getting Past the Past”

Rahab was a prostitute. She had a past that was not pretty, but when she put her faith in God the past was forgotten, and God plotted a course for her future. Rahab was able to break free from a life that was holding her down. Today, we will look at how faith can move us forward toward God’s plan for our future.

I’m a little late with the blog this week due to getting caught up from being on vacation last week. So I’ll be brief. I am really excited about this new series as we begin looking at the life of Rahab. Faith is something we all need more of, and it is evident that Rahab is a person of faith that we can learn from. This week our music celebrates God for who He is, and for what He has done for us. Take time to listen the music by clicking the links in the chart above. I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday
