We are continuing our series on Margin with a sermon that our entire country needs to hear; “Financial Margin”. Need I say more? Bro. Todd will be sharing about not only the importance of having financial margin, but he will also be sharing some steps you can take to get there. How much more freedom would we have if we all put this message into practice?

Our music this week opens up with “Song of Praise” which comes from Psam 63. This song is a celebration of the goodness that God has shown to us. It’s also a song of dedication as we state that we will follow God all of our days.

“I Will Boast” is a song that is unique to me in the fact that it uses the word “boast”. This word a lot of times has a negative feel to it, but in this instance we are boasting about the only one who is worthy of that praise. This song reminds us that everything we have is from God, and if there is to be any boasting then it is to the one who gave what we have. Take this song a little deeper and think about the things that make you proud. Your job, your things, finances, family, etc…. Now take time to thank God for those things and be reminded that without Him you would have nothing.

We move on to “Blessed Be Your Name” which is still one of my favorite songs. It reminds me that God is to be praised in all times, good and bad. Financially speaking, sometimes there are good times and some times there are bad times. We do know without a doubt that God has promised to provide every need, but often times we let ourselves get caught up with what everyone else has that we don’t. Also, how many times do we get blessed financially and forget to thank the one who provided. I think this is a great reminder to praise God through all situations.

We will finish up the music portion of our service with the song “My Reward”. This song is very convicting to me in that I often strive for earthly rewards. The sad thing is that those rewards will not last. God’s reward will last forever, and is far greater than anything I could work for here on earth.

I’m expecting this to be another incredible day at Oasis. Not because of what we can do, but because of what God can do. Take time to prepare yourself for our time of worship, and ask God to soften your heart to a topic that often times can cause us not to want to listen. I really look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.

We are gearing up for another exciting time of worship at Oasis Church this Sunday. We are continuing our series on “Margin” this week as Bro. Todd lays out how we can Make Margin in our life. I think just about every person in America needs to hear this message.

Our music opens up this week with a new song from the Passion movement entitled “Set Free”. I heard this song a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. Lot’s of energy as we celebrate the freedom we have in Christ. Take time to really familiarize yourself with this one and we’ll rock the roof off.

We’ll move on to the song “Our Love Is Loud” which is a song we have been doing at Oasis off and on since the beginning of the church. I love this proclamation of worship as we are reminded that everything we do can be an act of worship. From there we will move on into “Just to Be With You” which is a cry of wanting to be closer to Christ. I’m reminded of the message from last week when Bro. Todd talked about the difference between Martha who was busy getting ready for Jesus, and Mary who was simply sitting at His feet in awe. “All I want, All I need is just to be with You. Here I am at Your feet just to be with You”. Wow, what a statement of worship.

We’ll finish up with “Be Still” which is a reminder that we need to take time every day to simply be still and know Him. Come expecting to hear from God, and respond in whatever way He leads you. God is doing some amazing things in Central Arkansas. Oasis has been blessed with some incredible experiences during our times of worship for the past several weeks. We have always had a great spirit of worship in our services, but the past few weeks have been like nothing I have ever seen. Let’s continue this week preparing our hearts every day for our time together. Let’s also come prepared to be obedient to the Spirit, and expect huge things.

This is Easter Sunday, so we fully expect to have a lot of visitors. I have been inviting like crazy, and hope that you will join me in this as well. We begin a new series called “Margin” which I’m sure is something that many of us lack in our lives. I’m really excited to see what God will do through this new series

Our music this week mainly focuses on Easter in one way or another. I love the song “Like A Lion” as it states clearly that we believe not only that our God is not dead, but that He is living inside of those who are believers. I also like the picture it gives from Hosea 11 of our God “roaring like a lion”. It says that when He roars, His children will come trembling. In Hosea they where returning from being away from God. I think this so pertains to us today. Our God is not dead! He’s surely alive.

“Glorious Day” is a remake of a traditional hymn that Casting Crowns did on their cd “Until the Whole World Hears”. The lyrics give us such a clear telling of the story of Christ, and reminds us that one day He will return.

“How He Loves” is a reminder of the love that it took for Christ to give His life for us. I know how unlovable I can be on some of my best days. It’s so humbling to remember that even in all of my sinfulness, Christ died for me.

We will finish up the music portion of the service with a celebration and proclamation of “All Because of Jesus”. This is still one of my all time favorite songs as it reminds us that without Christ, we are nothing. Everything we have is because of Him.

I’m really expecting a big day on Sunday as we come together for worship. Please take time to better prepare yourself for our time together by listening to the songs in the chart above. I want our voices to “roar” from start to finish this week as we proclaim the message of Christ. I so look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.

Mary Ann, the Choir, and the rest of the Worship Team did an outstanding job on Sunday leading us in worship. Wow, what a day! This week we finish our series “Back to Basics” as Bro. Todd speaks on “The Lord’s Supper”.

Our music this week focuses on the fact that Christ gave His life for us. We will open up with the very personal & quiet song “You Gave Your Life Away”. This song says it all, and I’m really looking forward to singing it with you as we remember the sacrifice Christ made for us. From there we begin to celebrate the love that our Savior showed to us through His sacrifice with the hymn “My Savior’s Love”. We move on into a more contemporary telling of the same theme with “Jesus Messiah”, and finish with what the crowd shouted as Jesus came into Jerusalem the last time before His crucifixion; “Hosanna”.

This week we continue our series “Back To Basics” with a message about Baptism. We live in a confused culture when it comes to Baptism, yet it’s the first command that Jesus has given us after we have been saved. This week Bro. Todd will clarify the need for Baptism, and what it’s all about.

We will open up our service this week with one of my favorite songs, “Hosanna”. This is just an awesome song of worship to me personally, especially moving into this time of year. I can picture the palm leaves waving, and the celebration as Jesus came into town. All the more sobering though to remember how quickly things changed. This week it’s my hope that we would really lift our voices with this song and be reminded of the fact that Christ came to save us.

From there, we move into a more focused time of worship dealing with being obedient and following our Savior wherever He leads. As I mentioned earlier, Baptism is the first command that Christ gave us after we have been saved. Songs like “Marvelous Light”, & “Follow On” remind us of the importance of obedience to Christ’s commands. We want to run out of darkness and into the Light that our Father has for us. We will finish the music part of our worship with the song “Speak To My Heart” which is a prayer that God would not only speak to us, but that we would be obedient to His call.

It’s been so very long since posting anything here, but I’m challenging myself and others within our Worship Team to stay on top of this on a weekly basis. This Sunday we begin a new series entitled “Basics”. This is going to be an awesome series no matter where you are at in your spiritual walk. This Sunday we begin with “Salvation” which of course is the first step in our Christian walk. I really encourage you to take time this week to listen to the music listed above which is linked to other sites like youtube and such. This is a great opportunity to prepare yourself for our time together on Sunday.

Our music portion of the service this Sunday begins with a song entitled “I’m Singing”. I just really heard this song a month or so ago, and absolutely love it. Really listen to the lyrics of this song as it expresses a heart of worship. From there, the rest of our music this week really focuses on the fact that Christ came to save, and is still today calling sinners to salvation. We will be celebrating and proclaiming the truth that our God truly has the power to save anyone if they will just call on Him. This week as you prepare yourself for worship, think about your own salvation, and celebrate the fact that at some point in your life the creator of the universe called on you, and you invited Him in. If you would like, maybe type out your testimony here on the blog for others to see. I fully expect our voices to be loud and our hearts to be full this week as we come together to glorify God. 2011 has started off huge for Oasis Church, and we are really pumped about what God is doing in and through our church. One of the keys to our walk as a Christian is to remain in Christ. Every day we are faced with the decision of remaining in Christ, or making decisions based on what we want. To remain in the face of whatever comes our way is truly a struggle. This week John and PJ will be talking about some keys that can help us remain in Christ.

Through our music this week we will be crying out to our God who forever reigns over everything. We open up with a huge call for revival with the song “Like A Lion”. Let’s proclaim it loudly as we draw attention to our living God. We continue with “Sing to the King” which is another powerful song proclaiming our God as King, and our longing to see Him return. “Forever Reign” has become one of my favorites as we declare our dependence on the one who reigns over all. Truly nothing compares to our God. We will finish softly with the song “Speak To My Heart” which is a simple prayer asking God to speak, and promising we will listen and obey.

We continue our series “He Will Be Called” this Sunday as we focus on the name “Mighty God”. We truly serve a mighty God who gave up all of heaven to come to earth as a little baby. This week our music continues the Christmas Theme….well, after we open with the song “All Because of Jesus”. I thought this song was fitting as it proclaims that we wouldn’t be alive without the power of Christ. From there, we will move into “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” as we remember and celebrate the angels’ proclamation that Christ had come. I love the next song, “You Are Holy” because of the many names of God that are used throughout the song. And how fitting to use during our series about the names that Isaiah used to describe the coming Savior. This Sunday we will be proclaiming those names to all who will listen.

“O Come All Ye Faithful” is a call to worship and adore our Savior. This song has all the makings of a traditional Christmas Hymn, but points us right back to the purpose of worship rather than just remembering the way Christ came. We will finish with the song “Offering” which continues that theme of worship. I love the chorus, “I bring an offering of worship to my King. No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing. Jesus may you receive the honor that you’re due. O Lord I bring an offering to You.” Come prepared to give your offering of praise as we lift our voices together this Sunday. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our music this Sunday. We start a brand new series this Sunday entitled “He Will Be Called”. I love the song “O Come O Come Emmanuel” as it starts out with the prophecy of His coming, and finishes rejoicing on the chorus as He has come. “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” fits right on into the theme as well as it tells the basic story of what Christ has done for us. I think many people pass this song over as it seems to have been overdone, but don’t overlook the message in the song because of it’s familiarity. Truly take time to remember the sacrifice our Savior made for each of us and lift Him up as we sing.

We continue on with the traditional “Away In A Manger” remembering once again the way that our Savior came, and then move into a time of worship as we celebrate the name of Jesus with the song “No Sweeter Name”. We will finish the music portion of our service with “Here I Am To Worship” which once again ties in so well with our Christmas theme. The Light of the World stepped down into darkness to reach us all. What an awesome sacrifice our Savior made when He came down to us.

As we enter this Christmas season, don’t just get caught up in all the festivities and nostalgia of the season. Truly take time to remember WHY Jesus came and celebrate as you worship Him. I’ll look forward to our time together on Sunday

God has really been moving at Oasis Church! It was amazing to see the entire stage filled with people praying. God really did something awesome in the life of our church this past Sunday. Let’s continue to pray and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and get ready to see God blow us away this week. I feel like I need to tell you something to continue with our theme from last week. Bro. Todd really expressed our desire to see the alters full every week with people thanking God, asking for his help, His direction. That doesn’t just have to happen during the invitation though. During our time of worship through music, if God leads you to come to the alters, do it! We have a lot of things happening on the stage with band and singers, but there will always be room to pray if God leads you to do so. Our time of worship through music is not just for those on stage, it’s for everyone in attendance. Be sensitive to God’s leading, and really participate during our corporate time of worship.

This week we open up with some celebration as we sing a new song to Oasis entitled “How Great”. You need to get here early, because I promise you won’t want to miss this one. From there we will go on to the song “Days of Elijah”. Now I must admit that since we are beginning a series entitled “Elijah” this song immediately jumped out to me. I was reading up on the song a while ago just to get a better grasp on what it truly means. The author, Robin Mark says the song was inspired after watching a “Review of the Year” type program at the end of 1994. As he watched the review and was reminded of the state our world is in, he began to question if God was still in control. He felt like God spoke to Him that night and reassured Him that He was indeed in control. Robin began to recall the stories of characters from the Old Testament who faced many trials, and tragedies. Through it all, God was in control and was to be praised. His word was to be declared, and those who followed God could rejoice as they knew God would follow through with His promises. No matter what our condition, we can celebrate this Sunday knowing that God is in control of everything, and He will be coming again soon.

We’ll finish the music portion of our service with “Forever Reign” which to me is a cry of dependence on God. Our relationship with Christ is the thing that can get us through whatever trial we face. We simply need to run into the arms of the One who holds everything together.

We are baptizing this Sunday and beginning a new series. You definitely won’t want to miss this Sunday. I’ll look forward to worshipping with you at 9a.m. or 11a.m. this Sunday.

I am still in awe at what took place at Oasis this past Sunday. 395+ in attendance, 45 First Time Visitors, and the biggest number is 20 Saved! God really gave us an amazing day last Sunday, and we are looking forward to continuing the celebration this Sunday. We are continuing our series “isynch” with a sermon entitled “God’s Chat Room”. This week we are focusing on the church, and the relationships that are built to help us in our walk with Christ.

Our music this week focuses on the church as well. We will open up with the big sound of “Bless Your Name” where we proclaim our purpose to come together and bless the name of our God. “Let It Rise” continues our theme of togetherness. Bro. Todd says it time and time again, “our public worship is a reflection of your private worship”. When we come together this Sunday, let it be a continuation of your private worship throughout the week.

We will finish off big with a song that you have probably heard entitled “A New Hallelujah”. The lyrics of this song cry out “Arise, let the church arise!” I think it’s a fitting end to the day. I’m still trying to get back in the regular routine of the blog, so sorry for the infrequent posts. We had an awesome time at Oasis this past Sunday as we where reminded that God has called us to bring others to Him. This week we continue our series “Out of Bounds” as Bro. Todd will be talking about focusing on one.

This week our music once again focuses on evangelism. We will be doing a brand new song to Oasis this Sunday by Matt Redman entitled “This is How We Know” which does an amazing job of painting the picture of how much God loves us. When Jesus was carrying the load of our sin in the Garden of Gethsemane, he asked his disciples to pray with him. When he returned, he found them sleeping and he asked them, why they could not pray for just one hour? This week the Oasis will be challenge to pray for at least 8 1/2 minutes for 7 days for specific people who need Jesus. This will equal about one hour of prayer for the week.

So it has been ages since our last blog for worship at Oasis. I’m excited to get back on track. This is meant to be a resource for everyone who attends to better prepare for our time of worship together.

We are right in the middle of our series “Out of Bounds” which has been absolutely incredible….and very challenging. Every week we have been challenged with something that is out of our comfort zone. Week one was 7 Days with Strangers where we where challenged to do something nice for a complete stranger. Week 2 was 7 Days with the Enemy where we where encouraged to do something nice for someone who hasn’t treated us well. Last week we where challenged to take time with our families and evaluate how well we are following God. This week is 7 Days of Prayer. John and PJ will be speaking to us about the power of prayer, and will have a special challenge for all of us.

Our music this week focuses largely on how amazing our God is, and celebrates the fact that He calls us friend. We finish right before the message with the song “You Said” which speaks directly to the power of prayer, and the promises God has given when we ask. What is the one issue that seems to concern you more than anyone else? It is likely that whatever frustrates you the most is the area where God is calling you. It is a blessing to be burdened. We are blessed when God calls our attention to something that consumes us and drives us. His calling to do something about it is what makes life full of purpose.

VBS WEEK!!! This truly is one of my favorite events of the year, and it all kicks off Sunday night. You will notice that our stage (and building) will look a little different this Sunday, so be prepared :) Before we kick off VBS though, I am also very excited to continue our new series during worship on Sunday morning. This week we continue our series “Blessed” as Bro. Todd will be talking about being Blessed with a Burden. Our music this week deals with what should be our first consuming drive, and that is to worship and honor our God.

We open with a brand new song to Oasis entitled “Bless Your Name” which proclaims our number one priority as we come together, “We have come to worship the mighty God”. This song is not meant to be sung quietly, so take time to familiarize yourself with it prior to Sunday so that we can sing it out.

We move on to some familiar territory with “You’re Worthy of My Praise”, and a song that we have been worshipping with over the past couple of weeks “Forever Reign”. Both songs deal with the fact that God is far greater than we can even comprehend. He truly is worthy of our praise and so much more.

We finish with “From the Inside Out” by Hillsong. What better way to worship but to give control of ourselves to our maker to consume us from the inside out. We begin a new series this Sunday called “Blessed”. We all are truly blessed no matter what our thoughts are otherwise. This week as we prepare for our time of worship together at Oasis, begin thinking about the blessing’s God has given. As the old song says, “Count your blessings name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done”. This series digs way deeper into the topic of being blessed by God, and I’m really looking forward to experiencing it with you all.

We are doing two relatively new songs to Oasis this Sunday. The first, “Because of Your Love” is a Paul Baloche song that celebrates the change in our life that has happened because of God’s love. I love the first line of the song, and find it fitting to open up this series on blessing. It says, “as we come into Your presence we remember every blessing that You’ve poured out so freely from above”. It goes on to say, “Lord we come to give You thanks for all You’ve done”.

“Song of Praise” continues the theme of gratefulness for what God has done and is doing in our lives. This is definitely not a new song to Oasis, so let’s sing it out and celebrate .

Finally we finish with “Forever Reign” which I introduced last week from the piano. This is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I heard “Forever Reign” at a songwriting conference several weeks ago, and fell in love with it. I’m just now realizing that it won’t be available on a cd until the mid part of june, so this one is brand new. This to me is a declaration of dependence on the one who is good when there is nothing good in us. Check it out and come prepared to sing it to our King who will forever reign. I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.

Sickness took me out last week, thus the reason we didn’t have a blog for Worship. I truly enjoyed singing praises with you last week. This week Bro. Todd re-visits one of his favorite sermons from 2009, “Rope A Dope”. This one could have surely one title of the year for 2009. Whether you heard it last year, or will be hearing it for the first time, you are in for a great message. Come ready to listen.

Our music this week guides our worship with the thought of God’s name. In our society God’s name is used in many irreverent ways. This week I really want us to focus on lifting the Name Above All Names up. We open with “Hosanna” which was what the people cried out as Jesus entered the City shortly before his crucifixion. “Blessed Be Your Name” points to the fact that His name is to be praised no matter what our situation or circumstance. The Lord gives and takes away, but Blessed be the name of the Lord. We finish with a song that became new to me all over again a couple of weeks ago entitled “Your Name”. There is strength and power in the name of our Lord, and that is what this song focuses on. Come this week ready to lift up the name of our Savior as we worship together. I am so looking forward to our time of worship on Sunday. We continue our series “You Don’t Have What It Takes” with a message called “You Can’t Handle It All”. There are times in our lives where we think we can handle it all. Pride gets in the way, and we bite off more than we can chew. We do know someone who can handle it all though, and we need to put our trust in His ability rather than our own. Our music this week focuses on the fact that we can trust God to “handle it all” because He is faithful to take care of our every need.

FRIEND DAY Part 2! That’s right, due to the weather from last week, we have continued Friend Day to this Sunday as well. Awesome crowd yesterday despite the weather, and what an great time of worship to our Savior! This week we continue our series “You Don’t Have What It Takes” with a sermon entitled “You Can’t Please Everyone”. As a struggling People Pleaser myself, I’m looking forward to hearing God’s instruction as to how to change that mindset, and focus on being a God Pleaser first and foremost.

Happy New Year! Sorry about the lack of blogs as of late. We kicked off 2010 with a great service on Sunday, and look forward to a great year at Oasis Church. We begin a new series this week entitled “Unstoppable”. This series focuses on the power of the church when we work together to accomplish God’s goals for us. Make every effort to get plugged in during this series as it can really make a huge impact in all of our lives. Our music will focus a little on “vision” as this week’s sermon is “Unstoppable Vision”. We begin with our focus on Christ, and the fact that He is our everything. “Be Thou My Vision”, and “Open The Eyes of My Heart” are prayers, asking God to help us see through His eyes, and focus on His vision. We finish with “Blessed Be Your Name” which I think is fitting, because the song talks about the importance of worshipping the God no matter what the situation is around us. If we hold to God’s vision, the troubles and distractions won’t be able to cause us to loose focus.

This is our final worship service before Christmas, so our music continues to deal a lot with the birth of our Savior. This service incorporates a lot more music than a typical service at Oasis, but I think it will be a really special time of worship. Our music this week takes us on a bit of a journey. We begin with the songs “Glory in the Highest” and “How Great is Our God” which both emphasize (of course) the greatness of our God. This will be a big time of worship as we think about who our God truly is. We continue though with a big contrast into some Christmas music which reminds us of the way our Savior came. Our God was great and above all things, but He chose to come down as a baby to be born into the most humble of settings. Through our Christmas music we are also reminded why He came, and that is to save us. We will celebrate a little with the angels and shepherds, and then move once again into a time of worship (Here I Am To Worship) with our intention to honor God, and lift Him up.
Bro. Todd will be continuing our series on “Christmas is For-giving” as we talk more about that first step of forgiveness. Once again, I’m excited about the impact this series can have on our lives entering into our Christmas celebrations. If you missed last week’s sermon, be sure to check it out online, or pick up a cd copy from the resource center. It’s definitely a must hear.
We will finish our service with a time of celebration with our kids from Children’s Worship as they will be joining us for a few Christmas songs.

We begin a new series this week entitled “Christmas is For-giving”. This series deals with the topic of forgiveness (the title of course is a play on words), which I think is a perfect for this time of year. Many of us will be getting together with family and friends during the next month to celebrate Christmas. As we get together with people; many who we only see a couple times a year, we can let past hurts get in the way of the joy that we have fought so hard for during the past series. Will you be seeing someone who has hurt you this Christmas season? More than likely the answer is yes. The good news is that God can help us to get past all the hurt of our past. I think this series will help us continue our fight for joy as we face one of the largest joy thieves of them all: Unforgiveness. Most of our music for the next couple of weeks focuses on Christmas. Many of the songs are traditional Christmas hymns that we will be putting our own Oasis flavor to, so there won’t be a lot of links to listen. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…..well, at least towards the end of the service. This week we finish up our series “Fighting For Joy” as we talk about “Going The Distance”. Our music this week simply continues with the theme for joy, and then after the sermon we move into a little Christmas music that still has to do a lot with joy, but also starts to transition us into the next series entitled “Christmas is For-Giving”. To me, “Fighting For Joy” has been a perfect series right before Christmas time when so many people seem to have to fight even harder to be joyful. We finish up our series “Inside Oasis” this Sunday as we talk about the final core value of our six, “Keep It Simple”. Our lives are complicated, aren’t they? It is funny to me that we have all these technological advances to “save” us time, yet we are still busier than ever. We often take things that are simple, and overcomplicate them. For instance, have you ever had a task that takes you twice as long as it should, simply because there was surely an easier way to accomplish that task? I know that I have. The good news is that God’s plan is simple, and at Oasis we strive to remind ourselves of that. The bad news is that unless we constantly remind ourselves of the simple plan that He has, we will tend to complicate it. God says, “Seek me first, and everything else will be added”. No need for an iphone application, simply seek God first, and everything else will fall into place. Try it this week, and see what a difference spending time seeking God every day will make in your life.
This week our music deals a lot with simply focusing on God, and following His ways. Also, just to stay with our “simple” theme, I’ve scaled back the band and amount of songs we’ll be doing. We are continuing our series “Inside Oasis” this Sunday as we talk about the second core value in our series of 6, “Be Real”. God has created everyone unique. There is no one else exactly like you. Unfortunately, so often we find ourselves wanting to be more like someone else, rather than being who God created us to be. In a world where we are always being compared to others, it’s refreshing to know that God simply wants us to be who we are. He wants us to be real, and not hide behind the mask that society wants us to wear. Though I still struggle with wanting to be like others, there is great freedom in knowing that all God wants me to be is Doug. Are you struggling with a certain mold that others (or possibly yourself) want to put you in? Take time this week to ask God to help you simply be the creation He wants you to be. Awesome service this past Sunday! Thanks to all the heroes that made it happen; both in front, and behind the scenes. This week we continue our series on “Living Beyond Myself”, and we are to the point of just jumping in. Often times we tend to over analyze things. We want to really think and pray over every detail. Prayer is a good thing, but notice what Jesus did all throughout the scriptures. When Jesus called someone to do something, He was calling them to jump in and start right then. I haven’t run across any place where Jesus tells someone, “well, just think about it for a few days and get back to me.” No, you see Jesus saying things like “go now”, “follow me”, “let the dead bury the dead”, etc… This week as you read through the study materials, and spend time with God, ask Him to show you some place to serve and jump in!

Mary Ann will be at the helm of the worship team again this Sunday. She did a great job a couple of weeks ago, and I fully expect that you will truly be blessed as she leads out in worship. We continue our series this week “Beyond the Surface” talking about the side of friendship that most people would rather avoid. Do you love your friends enough to be able to confront them when they are wrong? We’re not just talking about personal preferences like which side of the roll the toilet paper should dispense from, or whether to push the toothpaste from the top or bottom. What we are talking about is speaking the truth in love. When a friend is going down a road that will lead them into trouble, it’s our responsibility as a friend to act. Our sermon this week tells us how we should act in such situations.

As I was thinking about the music for this service, I of course knew there wasn’t a lot to go with for such a topic. We will open up with “Happy Day” which is simply a song that celebrates the fact that Christ came that we could be with him forever. As I thought more about the topic, I was reminded that God doesn’t ask us to do anything that He doesn’t do. In John 15, Jesus calls us friends, which is where the celebration of “Friend of God” comes from in this service. God calls us “friend”, but He also confronts us when we are wrong. All throughout the scriptures you can see God confronting and disciplining those who would stray. Proverbs 3:11-12 says, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves.” If we are a true friend, we will gather the courage to confront those we love with the truth, even when it’s not the easiest thing to do.

“Forever” and “Faithful” are songs that declare of course God’s faithfulness, and the fact that He will never change. We will close the service with “We Shine” which is a declaration of what we intend to do as Christians, to shine the light of Christ to a darkened world.

Sorry about not getting the blog posted last week. We where at a camp in Texas last week, and it totally got overlooked. Cindy and I leave for another camp in Missouri on Monday morning, so please keep us in your prayers as we travel and minister.

This week we are continuing our series on friendship. I don’t know about you, but God has really been speaking to me through this series and book. I pray that God helps us all make changes in the way we interact with others.

Our music this week is a lot about simply lifting up the name of God. We open up with a familiar couple of songs “Today is the Day”, and “Everything To Me” in which we proclaim how much God means to us, and our intention to worship him as a congregation. After the welcome we go into a new song entitled “Faithful” which has become one of my favorites. In a world where we are surrounded by unfaithfulness, it’s such a blessing to remember that our God is ever faithful, and always will be. We finish up the music portion of the service with “Glorify Thy Name” and another new song for Oasis entitled “Your Name”.

We continue our series “Beyond the Surface: The Journey To Real Friendship” this week with the topic “Friendship Phobia’s”. We all have them: bad experiences with friends from our past that influence how we make friends now. This week Bro. So I’m laughing right now at the title of the sermon for Sunday, and realizing this is the reason for yet another short blog entry. Three letters: VBS! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year, yet definitely an overwhelming one. The really cool thing is that our VBS theme is on Faith, and not being afraid because God is with us….sound familiar? It should as this is pretty much the theme for our series on Rahab. Our kids will be singing at the opening of services to kick us off, and introduce the theme for the day. The rest of our music deals a lot with the subject of faith, and trusting God to take care of us even when we don’t understand how or why.

This week will also be a little sad for us here at Oasis as we say goodbye to a family that has been with us since the beginning. John and Christina Anderson; as you probably already know, are moving to Omaha for John’s job. The Andersons have been a big part of the Oasis family, and where the first members of the Oasis Worship Team when we began in 2002. We really appreciate their years of service, and wish them well in this new chapter of life. This will be their final service with us on Sunday, so be sure to take time to encourage them as they make this big move.
